We love to go camping together as a family and Bear Lake is one of our favorite places to go, except we don't go right to Bear Lake, we go to Cloverleaf Campground just up the road about 10 miles on the St. Charles river. I like to camp where it is green with lots of trees instead of on sparse and open campsites that I think is on the Lake. These campgrounds have walk in spots and we have never not been able to find a site to stay at. It's right on the road that leads to the Minnitonka cave too, so it is perfect if you plan on going there as well. It is just 2 miles from the cave.
The Bear is right outside the restaurant that we went to one night. Kenzie and Lexie really wanted a picture with it.
Jared got this hammock on his mission in Ecuador. He saved up so that he could buy it before leaving to come home from his mission. It is one of the kid's favorite furniture pieces on our camp outs. More fights happen over this piece of clothe than anything else. However, more fun in also had on this hammock than anywhere else too so we bring it every time.

The kids play so well together when we are not at home. I taught Eli and Lexie how to play War and they absolutely loved it. I also taught them how to play slap jack which they also enjoy playing.
Jared taught Kenzie and Lexie how to make a campfire. He taught them how to set up a log cabin one and a tepee one. He talked about how the fire needs to start with the littlest kindling first and then grow from there. Lexies was really interested in using the lighter but Jared taught her how to use matches, which scared her but she finally got he hang of them.
I think the kids would eat just s'mores every meal if we let them. I don't it is so much the flavor that they love but the chance to put something in the fire and pull it out, haha.
We chose really easy meals this time of camping. We went to Sams Cub and bought pre made meals like bbq boneless ribs, and pulled pork. They tasted so good and all we had to do was warm them up. The fried potatoes were really easy to cook up and add the the ribs and we had a great dinner.
We had the whole woods behind our campsite to explore. We could hear the creek going by us and so we took a hike to go find it. The kids had a lot of little adventures in the woods finding chipmunks, squirrels, arched trees, and finally the creek.
We have to fill our car up the the brink with camping gear but it is all worth it when you are comfortable out camping!!!
