Last weekend I took a spur of the moment trip to Washington State. That is my home state and my parents still live there. My sis-in-law Dez was going up to visit our other sis-in-law Heidi, the eldest and heir to the Jerry Heath fortune. :) She lives in Spokane. They were going to go to an Elvis Presley musical and so I tagged along for the ride.
Dez and I set out early Friday morning and reached our destination by about 3:30 that afternoon. Not bad! We arrived with only two pit stops. Dez had never been to Washington so she thoroughly enjoyed the vast greenery of the trees and plush landscape as we traveled into my home territory.
Anyways, we arrived and immediately Heidi showed us the Falls. Behind us is the Spokane River and this is the highest it has been that I have ever known it. It was so pretty. I loved how untamed and wild it looked!
Saturday, we went hiking. I knew Heidi and Dez planned on going hiking but when we woke up that morning, it was raining so I expected us to stay in...I was wrong. I think Heidi put it perfectly in her blog when she said I went to humor them...I think it is true.
It was pretty good at first, slight incline but a relatively easy hike: and then the path was covered with snow and steep. To think, Heidi goes on these types of hikes by herself. Crazy! I told her she needs to call me and let me know when and where she is going, just in case. ( She says she calls and tells her dad, but he doesn't get the message until 3 days later...well, that does no good!)
It really was a fun hike, the rigor of the hike kept us warm. We couldn't tell how cold we were until we stopped for a drink of water or to find out where we were.
As we hiked we came across a pile of animal droppings and Dez asked if it was deer poo. I said it looks more like elk or moose, so watch out. We came across a tree that a bear had scratched into in order to get the bugs inside and I showed them how the tree was all smooth in certain spots where he had licked it clean. Then...later when I got home, I learned from Jared that Heidi had taken a survival class at Ricks and had taken a month long trip into the wilderness and lived off of the land. Well, I immediately felt dumb like I was some sort of know-it-all and yet Heidi never said a thing about her trip. She is nice enough to let me think I knew stuff that she didn't, but I probably sounded silly to her. Sorry Heidi that you had to listen to my ramblings. I am such a dork! Dez even heard some sort of sound and so I started clapping to make noise and scare away anything that might have been there and Heidi called it my African Clapping Dance. I really am a dork! :)
Well, we lived through that hike, which by the end I thought we might not! We were so cold and trudging through snow, trying to follow a path we couldn't see, and no one knew where we were...but we emerged from the forest, onto the highway and made our way back to the Van. Fingers frozen, hair all wet, clothes all wet, but we survived. We made it home and ate nice warm soup, and curled up to a nice chick flick. What a fun day! I really liked spending that time with Heidi and Dez.
This is my sister Shavonne. She and her husband Derek live in Spokane also so I had the chance to visit with her and my brother Ian while Dez and Heidi went to the play. We went to Red Robin which is one of my favorite places to eat. Then we went back to Shavonne's house and hung out. It was nice to see them! I didn't get to see my parents during this weekend because they had so much stuff they needed to do, and it was a last minute trip, but at least I got to see two of my siblings.
On Sunday Dez and I threw a birthday party for Heidi, actually Heidi L, a friend to Heidi, she organized everything and did everything, but Heidi is giving us the credit. We went to friendship park in Spokane and had a nice spaghetti or Alfredo dinner. This is Heidi next to her cake in the shape of a book and listed on it is the name of books she has read in her book club. It was so fun to see her and spend time with just her and Dez. I hope to do it again sometime!
