Eli Helps Plant Potato Crops

Our Neighbor that lives across the street from us is a farmer. You'll see him riding his tractors, four wheelers, motorcycles, and trucks all around the place planting wheat and potatoes in the surrounding fields. After the planting is done, you'll see him constantly moving water lines to make sure his crop gets the necessary water it needs. This year, Eli has become his little buddy. I think Gary gets bored in the tractors by himself and so if he sees my kids watching out the windows of our house, mainly Eli cause the girls are at school, he'll offer the a ride. Eli loves going and learning all about farming. I think Gary is training him to be a farm hand.
Eli spent a few hours in the truck with Gary and when he came back, he explained all about how the potatoes get planted. "First they fall down the tubes and then a shovel thing covers them with dirt!"
I think working on a farm is a hard job and I am glad that Eli gets to learn some of the ways we get our food. Eli loves hanging out with Gary, who is also our Bishop. Gary is always nice and ends up going and getting ice cream while they are working. It is cute!

Working on the Farm

We have a couple in our ward who are so super nice. They always offer to give us eggs and stuff from their farm. Sister McGary was Kenzie's primary teacher and is now Eli's teacher and is pretty fantastic. She brings in feathers from her peacocks and calls if my kids miss church to see if they are sick or if we were just out of town. They are just good good people!! Anyways, they invited us to come and see the new baby goats that were born not so long ago.

We called up and asked if we could come for Family Home Evening and she said that that would be great because it is feeding time and so we could help her. We happily obliged!

Kenzie was really apprehensive at first but she figured out how to milk the goats pretty quickly.

Jared gave it a try, he figured, if you've handled one....a.....then you should be able to handle them all.
I got it down real quick. I guess those years on the ranch when I was a little girl are still in my bones!
My very good friend, Cassidy, heard that we were going to see baby goats and she really wanted to come so I invited her family along too.  Ellie, her little girl, kept getting squirted by the milk.
In order to keep the goat from bucking, the girls kept feeding him oats to sooth him.
Sister McGary filled these bottle up and we got to go feed the babies. They were so anxious to eat.
We kept having to tell the kids to hold up the bottles more so that it would be just like if the babies were under their mommies.
I just laugh at how giddy and happy Cassidy was to see the goats. I hope she gets how own goats some day.
Eli and Lexie loved feeding the babies too!
Jordyn wasn't quite sure what to do. The goats suck pretty hard and so I think she thought they were taking her toy away.
I'm glad that we got to go visit the farm. I loved it but I guess I have more city girl in me now a days. I wouldn't want that kind of daily work but I am happy to help. Cassidy and Shawn have gone back a few times to help with labor around the farm since all the McGary kids are grown up and gone. They trade for goat milk, which Cassidy loves. I just can't rap my head around the idea of drinking goat milk though.

Funny sayings from our kids

Jared was jumping on the trampoline outside with the kids and got tired and told the kids that he was going to get off the trampoline and rest. The kids always beg for him to stay on and jump longer but seriously, you get pretty tired jumping with the kids because they are constantly trying to get bounced by you, which essentially is them stealing your bounce from you. It gets tiring after a while. So Jared got off and said that that was all the jumping he was going to do for the night. Disappointed, the kids let him go. Later, they were running around in the yard and started playing the three little pigs. They asked me if I would be the farmer. "Sure," I said. They began, each of them, by asking me for straw, sticks, and then bricks.(Eli asked for one thousand hundred stick please. That was really cute!) Each one of the kids built their house right in front of our porch swing that Jared and I were sitting on. Then, the kids asked Jared if he would be the wolf. He said that he would and then all the kids ran to the trampoline. They moved their houses. Our kids are tricky and smart. Jared was distracted by something and hadn't noticed that the kids had relocated their houses, so when he turned and saw the kids all on the trampoline, he wasn't sure what had happened. I told Jared that he had been swindled by our children and now had to be the wolf on the tramp. "Oh man," he said, and got up. The kids said, "Daddy, you have to say Little Pig, Litt..." "I know what my lines are!" Jared grumbled in his gruff voice. They finished out the play. Lexie had to feed Eli his lines because he forgot, but in the end, Jared, the wolf, ended up jumping into the middle of the tramp or er the chimney of the little piggies brick house and burned up while the kids enjoyed getting bounced by daddy again, even though he said he wasn't going to jump any more that night. Good times, good times!
On Sundays, I try to make it to where the kids only watch church movies. They try to do all sorts of things on Sunday but we try to keep the Sabbath day as holy as we possibly can. So then, Lexie comes up to me and asks, "Mom, can we watch Teen Titans?" (Teen Titans is like Batman and Robin, and characters like that.) I say, "no." She replied, "Oh please mom, Teen Titans is a church movie, they save people's lives and kill bad people..."   (As she says the word lives, her voice got higher and she held out the word for a little while.) I said, "no." again and Lexie walked away disappointed.  I love hearing her logic sometimes, but most times, she is pretty tricky, she thinks things out and tries to get you to totally understand her logic even though it usually isn't quite right.

Jared came and sat down next to me on the couch and started chewing away at some trail mix while looking over my shoulder reading this blog post. I turned to him very kindly and said, "That chewing is kind of annoying!" He says to me..."You're annoying!" (We have a joke between each other where we rebuttal back what has been said to us. IE: "Will you stop touching me?" Then the other will quickly say, "YOU stop touching me!" It is funny and we always laugh whenever the other person does it. Hopefully this doesn't sound like we are mean to each other because we laugh whenever it happens.) Anyways, Jared's chewing in my ear now because now he knows that he is being annoying and so he is doing it on purpose now. I am going to get him back in a moment...

Jared's parents are taking our kids for the evening and so we get to go on a date. We asked the kids where we should go and what we should do and they came up with this...

Kenzie: "Go out to eat."
Lexie: "Go to the Movies!"
Kenzie:" Go to Utah!"
Lexie: " Mow the Lawn for the Lady!"
Kenzie: "Go to Disney World!"
Lexie: "Clean your teeth with a white crayon!"
Kenzie: "Go do Zumba and then go do Mommy's hair!"
Lexie:"Maker her grilled Cheese!"
Lexie:" Kiss for 15 hours!"
Kenzie:" Kiss for 60 hours!"

Second Chance Prom: About the Dance

(If you haven't read the previous post, do that first!!!)

After our wonderful meal, we all headed over to the dance across town. I pulled the camera out in the car and Jared said, "Again? We always take a picture while driving, it's dangerous." I waited till we were at a stop light to take the picture so that we would be more safe.

The other thing that James and Emily bought, besides his awesome suite, were these masks for everyone to wear. They were so awesome! It was so much fun to have facial blingage on.
Then everyone posed with with their spouse but Jared was taking the picture and so I was all alone...no one to hug...in my own little cloud....
As the night progresses, we get wilder and wilder.
Here, James is flashing Jared...maybe the drinks were spiked!
Then the suit coats come off and the boys start pulling out their naughty dance moves like raising the roof! I know...very scandalous!!
We all were bustin' some sweet moves but stop to take a picture.
Dusty....always the kidder, Megann...she let her curls out but won't ever let you get documentation of it. You wouldn't know it from her classiness, but she knows how to cut up some rug!

Doug might be doing the running man around Sarah.
The group doing a line dance. I love seeing James and Doug watch their wives, trying to pick up on the steps.
We had a great night and will definitely do this again next year. If anyone is interested in going with us, we would love to show you a good time. You won't regret going!

Second Chance Prom 2012

After going to the Second Chance Prom last year, Jared and I decided that we had to make it an annual thing. So once the decision was made, we made sure to get as many of our friends to go as we possibly could. Sadly, a bunch weren't able to come, but those that have gone once, always come back for more. Once we got our group finalized, we planned on going to the Thai House but once we got there it was closed, shut down, out of business. I was devastated, I had been so excited to go there that my mouth kept salivating. We put our heads together and decided upon O'Callahans. Once everyone got there, we made our greetings...

Dusty, apparently, was really happy to see Doug and gave him a big manly hug.

Jared, not wanting to be left out, jumped in for a squeeze.
 Then the men admired Dusty's....um....outfit.
Then the studs showed off their outfits for us ladies to admire.
Not wanting to be left out, we ladies showed off our outfits too.

Then we sat down for a nice meal.
Doug and Sarah, Emily and James, Me and Jared, Megann and Dusty.
(We were the only ones in the restaurant.)

Of course we had to do couples pictures. It just wouldn't be right not to have them since we don't get all dolled like this every day.
James scored this zuit suit in San Diego for $30.00 so Emily made a flapper dress to go with it.
Megann found this pretty purple dress but it had a slit up to the middle of her thigh. Being flashy, she wanted to leave the dress how it was but I managed to talk her into sewing it up to at least her knee. (Dusty was highly disappointed!) But he covered his disappointment well by posing like this.
Can you feel the heat between Doug and Sarah? She, like me, had to stand on the upper step to be tall enough to pose for the picture.
I'll post more pictures on the actual dance on a different post because I worry that this one might be too long.

However, our waitress asked us if we were going to chaperon some prom somewhere but we said, "No we were just going to the second chance prom." She said, "oh well if you want to come back here later, we get a pretty roaring crowd around 10:00, but they're a younger group."
(I'm not sure but I think she was calling us old...like we might not fit into the young group that comes in. Jared and I were saying that that is the first time that we've been classified as old.)
