Working on the Farm

We have a couple in our ward who are so super nice. They always offer to give us eggs and stuff from their farm. Sister McGary was Kenzie's primary teacher and is now Eli's teacher and is pretty fantastic. She brings in feathers from her peacocks and calls if my kids miss church to see if they are sick or if we were just out of town. They are just good good people!! Anyways, they invited us to come and see the new baby goats that were born not so long ago.

We called up and asked if we could come for Family Home Evening and she said that that would be great because it is feeding time and so we could help her. We happily obliged!

Kenzie was really apprehensive at first but she figured out how to milk the goats pretty quickly.

Jared gave it a try, he figured, if you've handled one....a.....then you should be able to handle them all.
I got it down real quick. I guess those years on the ranch when I was a little girl are still in my bones!
My very good friend, Cassidy, heard that we were going to see baby goats and she really wanted to come so I invited her family along too.  Ellie, her little girl, kept getting squirted by the milk.
In order to keep the goat from bucking, the girls kept feeding him oats to sooth him.
Sister McGary filled these bottle up and we got to go feed the babies. They were so anxious to eat.
We kept having to tell the kids to hold up the bottles more so that it would be just like if the babies were under their mommies.
I just laugh at how giddy and happy Cassidy was to see the goats. I hope she gets how own goats some day.
Eli and Lexie loved feeding the babies too!
Jordyn wasn't quite sure what to do. The goats suck pretty hard and so I think she thought they were taking her toy away.
I'm glad that we got to go visit the farm. I loved it but I guess I have more city girl in me now a days. I wouldn't want that kind of daily work but I am happy to help. Cassidy and Shawn have gone back a few times to help with labor around the farm since all the McGary kids are grown up and gone. They trade for goat milk, which Cassidy loves. I just can't rap my head around the idea of drinking goat milk though.

I won a goat milking contest my second year of college! It does come right back to you, if it's in your bones.
I'd love to visit the farm. What a great FHE!

I'm not into goat milk either, but I hear it's some of the best stuff around. I do think everyone needs to bottle feed a baby goat though.

Was the goat a he? cause if he was how did you get milk from him? or was there a daddy goat you were feeding oats to. I love goats, they have crazy eyes!
