Canning

As you can tell, I am doing major catch up posts!

This year I was able to can a whole bunch of stuff. I feel very domestic! I was able to can pickles and salsa with my good friend Cassidy Marshall, and then she gave me canned apple pie filling in exchange for some of my jars.
I pitted and froze peaches and green beans and made raspberry jam. I made diced tomatoes with Sister Linda Butler, from my ward. And my wonderful mother-in-law, Betty, came over and helped me make apple sauce. I feel very blessed to have been able to fill up my food storage with foods from my garden and the over abundant gardens of others who want to share. (A big shout out to Sister Killian who has a major green thumb and shares everything! And to Grandma Anne, who gave me all her canning jars!)

This is Lexie turning the crank to mash up the apples in to apple sauce.
Grandma Betty, Eli, and Lexie taking a turn making the apple sauce. It is so much easier to have someone help you when you are canning!

Gardens are hard work but when they produce so much food, you have a sense of pride for what you've been able to accomplish. Thanks to the Dials who share their garden space with us, I enjoy our early morning weeding excursions.
