Who's kid is that...get him off the court!

This is basketball season and so the kids and I pack up a huge bag of popcorn, I stash a big candy bar in my bag, and grab a sippy cup and we all head to the game. I bring the treats because the kids can't hold still for very long unless they have some food to munch on. The games have been pretty anti-climatic because his boys are so stinking good, the games are rarely close with a usual 30 point lead. Now, you may be wondering if Jared is running up the score and I assure you that my husband has more class than that! He has his second string in more than his starters and he makes his kids run the offence for a while and not just let them "do their thing", which is run and gun, drive and dish type of playing. Anyways, back to my original topic, the kids. We go and watch the games and the kids always say "which color do we want to win" and I always say," the white team." Sometimes Kenzie wants to cheer for the blue team or the green team, but I steer her onto the right course.

Yesterday, we go to the game and all is well, the kids have enjoyed their popcorn and pieces of chocolate. If there aren't very many people around, I allow them to climb up and down the bleachers. They are doing really well, so I figure I can watch a bit of the game, then all of a sudden, Eli is running across the court. Heading for Daddy, the coach. Eli is like 2 feet tall and running as fast as he can but you have a stampede of sweaty, gangly, jersey clad, eighth grade boys hustling back to get on defence. "OH THE HORROR!" My man-child is going to be trampled. Then...a ray of hope....whistles, lots of whistles....refs....dear sweet refs...save the day! Jared runs and grabs Eli; I am embarrassed but more relieved that my boy is safe, I grab him, red faced and all but all is well...I think!

I left Mackenzie and Alexis on the other side of the court in the bleachers playing. Jared hands Eli to me and says, "look." I do and there is Alexis stuck in the crack between the bleachers. She is screaming and parents are trying to get her out. Her foot slipped through and couldn't get it out. Luckily she was just startled and not really hurt. I reach her and all she needs is a little hug. The rest of the game was uneventful, at least on our part!

Jared had two games yesterday and I decided to go late to the first one and then watch the whole second game. We got there with 3 minutes left in the 4th quarter. I wish I had gotten there earlier because apparently Jared got really mad at the refs and yelled at them. Now, if you know Jared, he doesn't get mad, so to see that would have been something. What happened was that one of his kids got called for 3 seconds in the key. Jared yells out, "What kind of call is that? It couldn't have been 3 seconds because those boys know how to play defence! He wouldn't have been able to stand there for 3 seconds without someone finding him! He was open and you are counting too fast!" It's funnier when you think that all was quiet and then all of a sudden you have a coach blow up, when he is very even tempered, and normally doesn't ever yell at refs, ever!

Hey Court,

Joel and I were laughing and saying that poor girl. Meaning you. But I am glad Eli is okay and your daughter wasn't hurt. That is a huge blessing.

So it looks like God is sending us to California. Do you think we could come and stay with you on the 10th of March. To catch up and what not. The next day we would head out to my sisters. We have to make it to LA by the 13.

Okay my Friend I love you. I hope plans work out. If not that is okay!!!

Girl why didn't you ask me to take your kids so you could watch the games??? I told James about the game, and he asked the same question. So if you want to, all you need to do is ask. You better do it before I have too many kids! :) How's the house?

That story was hilarious! You always have these eventful stories to tell. You also seem to do such a good job with your kids, even attempting to bring them to the game, some moms wouldn't do that. Good for you. When it comes to Jared, I don't think I have ever seen him angry. That is something rare to see, too bad you missed it.

I remember Chad doing that once when we were little, only it was a church ball game with adults!
